Vellichor and Friends 26th October 2023
Vellichor are taking over the Fiddler's Elbow and putting on a night of incredible music in in honour of the musical community that made us! The night is a multi-act tour of a musical wonderland that displays the talents of all our closest musical colleagues and friends. There'll be jazz, funk, soul, disco - both old and new! So if you like to dance, if you like to bop, if you like to stand perfectly still whilst having a great time, then come on down and listen to some brilliant musicians do their thing!
First up is Real Name Timothy - Originally from Leicester, Real Name Timothy is a music artist/general slayer, inspired by the likes of Lianne La Havas, Erykah Badu, Ari Lennox, Jeff Buckley and other soul/RnB songwriters. He is yet to release any music, but has lots of exciting things cooking. He uses music to tell personal stories that reflect his experience in love, sex and ambition, but specifically from a queer (occasionally intoxicated) perspective.
Then there's Syzygie - \SIZ-uh-jee\ - noun: Astronomy. An alignment of three celestial objects, e.g. the sun, the earth, the moon or a planet. (French spelling) Big fokkern jazz-space cowboys Syzygie first burst through the earth's atmosphere in 2018. On a clear, crisp night you might be able to spy their intergalactic mix of jazz, hip-hop and garage zooming through space—that is, if you have your telescope handy. They humbly request, please, no pets.
After that there's Vellichor - your hosts for the evening!! These cats started out as a jazz quartet before things started getting a little....weird. Now they're influences include not only Roy Haygrove and Nate Smith but Radiohead, Tool, Aphex Twin, MF Doom, and Floating Points. With two records out already and another on the way, you better get ready because there's some original music coming your way!
Finally, the night ends with Hamish OOX - Hamish is the founder of the long-running “OOX” club night and is a resident on East London’s Netil Radio. He has a unique library of tracks from dancefloors across the globe. From the turntables, you will hear disco rare grooves, scorching-hot latin, afro-rhythms, post-punk oddities and jazzy beats. KTF!
