John Motors is an exciting new funk organ trio from London, UK. Formed in 2020 and comprising of three graduates of the Middlesex University Jazz programme, the band draw on the classic funk traditions, whilst bringing to the mix their own rich musical backgrounds. A heavy focus on the blues is ever-present, whilst the uplifting characteristics of Soul and Groove music give the band an ultimately optimistic voice. The timeless combination of organ and guitar, pairing huge orchestral power with percussive and melodic tones, is reimagined in a band that strives to weave these timbres. The melodic and harmonic interplay of Reuben Ard (organ) and Izzy Stephens (guitar) is backed up by hard-hitting groove machine Andreas Ziarkas (drums), who completes the trio with energy and rhythmic intricacy in equal measure. Having released their EP in July 2021 John Motors continue to evolve their sound and are planing on releasing their LP in 2022. With multiple collaborations on the horizon and live performances making a comeback, John Motors stand ready to fuel the groove with a passion.

The Hideaways: the Bristol-based trio famed for charged lyrics, thunderous drumming and trip-hop infused electronic music, release their latest EP PEER/STARE on Sink Records.
Released 04 March 22 the four track EP comes off the back of a sold-out Bristol Rough Trade show. In their latest release, The Hideaways bring a fresh new sound, dripping in lyricism and rollicking choruses.
In PEER/STARE the trio build on the rambunctious energy of their earlier work, ditching the polished production in favour of a raw and edgy soundscape. Fans of Massive Attack may sense the influence of Bristolian legend Stew Jackson, who came on board to help The Hideaways further develop their signature style. Speaking ahead of launch, lead singer Danny Pugh said:
“We created this EP differently, detuning the synths and making it feel rawer. Stew took our vision, gave it a pulse, and brought it to life. He’s crafted an early ‘80s sound with the drums taking inspiration from Talking Heads. It’s live music for low-lit rooms where you dance around like a weirdo.”
As spring approaches, and the boys emerge from their greenhouse of 1980s-inspired-synths and driving drums, now is the time for PEER/STARE..
